How Does A LASIK Eye Surgery Process
What is LASIK?
LASIK or Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, is a type of refractive surgery for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea so as to produce clear vision. LASIK eye surgery provides these individuals with an effective treatment option, where a predetermined amount of corneal is removed. It is a surgery during which the patients feel little pain and that takes little time—-around 10 minutes for each eye.
The LASIK Procedure
In order to check whether you are a good candidate for LASIK eye surgery, the ophthalmologist will give you a pre-LASIK eye examination. With it, your eye health and your vision is tested, and the eye doctor will then discuss details concerning with you.
What follows next is the while-procedure, at the beginning of which you will be asked to lie down on a special bed where eye treatment equipments are rounded. At first, the surgeon will place an eyepatch on one of the eye, while the other one will be put in place by a speculum so as to keep your eye open during the procedure. Then, the surgeon will place certain amount of eyedrop in the eye under-operation. Subsequently, you will be asked to focus on a small light while the surgeon reshapes the cornea with a laser controlled by a computer. During the performance, a corneal flap will be made and you will hear the clicking sound of the laser, but you feel no pain. What is more, there is no additional anaesthetic.
Several minutes later, more eyedrops will be placed in your eye. If you will perform the surgery on both eyes, the procedure will then repeated for the second eye.
The while-procedure will merely cost over 10 minutes, however, if the pre-time, any paperwork, discussions with your doctor and resting are taken into consideration, there will be more than 1 hour.
Postoperative treatment
When the surgery is done, you can go home after several minutes’ rest, but this does not mean that you are totally recovery from the surgery. As a matter of fact, you should still plan your visit to the surgeon regularly to minimize or even eliminate the possible eye infection risk and other eye problems risk. And if you encounter any uncomfort with your eyes, make sure to go to see your doctor immediately.
Of course, consultation with the eye doctor is necessary. You can ask whatever question that you want to make clear and that you are confused with, such as the possible sequel, performing time, recovery time the benefit and the cost, etc. Thus, you will be more confident with the surgery and with yourselves.
