Are You In Control Of Your Television Viewing?

How many times have you sat down to watch a good film or television programme, only to be interrupted by the phone when it rang just as the programme got underway?

Annoying, isn’t it? If you are watching a video or a DVD it’s not a problem because you can simply pause it and carry on watching once the call is finished. But what if you don’t have that option?

It’s always good to have some time to ourselves to relax. One of the best ways to do this is to watch something good on television. It could be the latest movie showing, it could be your favourite comedy, or it could be a new documentary.

Even better, you can make an event of it. Grab a snack, your favourite drink and a nice comfy chair and get ready to enjoy your chosen programme. You could even unplug the phone if you wanted, although there is nothing to stop someone knocking on the door as you are about to start watching television.

Of course the programme you want to watch may not be on at a suitable time for you. Suppose you get stuck on the train on the way home or caught up in traffic? You could miss the start of the programme. If it happens to be on during the day when you are at work you obviously can’t watch it then either.

Thankfully we have other methods of catching up with our favourite programmes nowadays. We can set the video to record them, or do the same with the DVD player if it is a recordable one. This makes it easier to get the programme we want to watch ready for us when it suits us, rather than trying to fit in around the times that the broadcasters decide to show it. After all, those times don’t suit everyone.

There is still the issue of being interrupted if we choose to sit down and watch a live programme though. What happens then?

The answer is that it all depends on what equipment you use to watch television with. For example if you are watching a terrestrial channel through your aerial you will have to put up with missing part of the programme. That’s not ideal if you have planned your whole evening around it.

You could scrabble around trying to find a video or recordable DVD to put it on, but this isn’t ideal. A Sky Box is by far the easiest option, since you can press a button and pause the programme you are watching – even if it is live.

So you can see there are options to put you in better control of your viewing experience. And since watching television is something most of us love to do, this is surely a good thing.
